A short account of a trip to Nîmes

A short account of a trip to Nîmes

To wind up my holidays, I am spending a week with friends in Montpellier. Anne, the mother, knew that I would enjoy going to Nîmes.

The four of us – Franck, Anne and their daughter Manon (12 years old) – take a TER (Regional Express Train). What a joy it is for me to (re)discover this city where Father Pernet said that he really understood what you call “the hardships afflicting workers”.

The GPS is guiding us throughout the town… but here it is indicating “Enclos Rey Residence ” Was it here? Will I find it here?

We reached the street named Rue de l’Enclos Rey and wandered around. I was hoping to find the famous staircase symbolised by the photograph that I had been keeping in my mind’s eye and in my heart since I became a Little Sister.

We crossed the street named Rue de la Poudrière on the right, and there it was!

Anne and Manon hurried up to the top to take pictures for me. As you can see from these photos (overleaf), there are many colours and beautiful tags.

As for me, I stay half-way up with Franck. We talk about the Congregation in exactly the same place where Father Pernet’s first intuition started to take shape.
I cherished spending this time in all simplicity with friends who had offered me the gift of the Enclos Rey.
