What are the sources of the story of the Little Sisters of the Assumption?
The archives of the little Sisters of the Assumption bear witness to their activity and mission from their foundation to the present day.
Archives of the Little Sisters of the Assumption
The collection of the archives of the Little Sisters of the Assumption, kept in Paris, rue Violet, at the Mother House of the Congregation, allows us to trace the origins, history and life of the Congregation, as well as the communities and religious that make up it.
The funds are diverse and very rich, preserving correspondence from the founders, as well as chronicles, stories and newspapers (especially during the war of 14-18), documents on the PSA Mission… among others. The media are also varied: paper, but also photos, drawings, audio-visual documents and various objects.
Two other congregations were integrated into the PSA during its history: the Little Sisters of the Fields (1962) and the Servas dos Pobres (1950). The documents from these two congregations are also in our holdings.
Presentation of the service’s missions
The archives service of the Little Sisters of the Assumption is composed of three people. Our mission can be defined according to 4 axes:
Little Sister on mission in Madagascar
COLLECT documents, to enrich our funds so that what is happening today can become history tomorrow. This operation consists mainly of collecting documents from the Secretariat and the General Council, as well as from the communities and religious themselves.
CONSERVATION which consists in keeping the documents in the best possible conditions (temperature, light, humidity, etc.), and protecting them from dust and light using suitable packaging.
CLASSiFY documents, in order to make them available for research. This leads to the drafting of a research instrument, which describes the documents in order to find them.
COMMUNICATION which is the provision of archives for researchers, both through exhibitions or articles, as well as through responses to research requests or the reception of historians in our premises.
